Sole Operator or Beneficiary of Basic Goodwill?

At 15 I was introduced to meditation.  It seemed like a really important thing.  I was told one should practice twice a day for at least 40 minutes at a time to get any value out of it.  I sure wanted to do this, yet my skill set for taking on something that involved that much discipline was largely made up of mentally beating myself up, and that skill set was well developed.

A few times I had wonderful experiences sitting with groups.  I started a personal practice over and over again, but sustaining it didn’t happen.  For years I thought it was because I didn’t want to do it enough, or I was lazy, lacked discipline and in short was a failure.  Meditating was very, very important to me, and yet I wasn’t doing it.

Approaching my 41st year I recognized that I believed the Universe (substitute the appropriate word for you where I have used ‘Universe’) wanted me to mediate.  It just made sense that the Spiritual aspect of Being wanted me to meditate, wanted me to have the benefits of that experience and wanted those benefits to be extended to others.

When I’m gifted with a greater level of understanding, a bigger perspective I want to do something to acknowledge that.  It doesn’t make sense to me to notice the experience then go on as if nothing happened.  I decided that each day I was going to light a candle to acknowledge that I believe it to be true that the Universe wants to support me in moving forward in my life.  I also decided that my deep desire to meditate, that had been sustained for over 20 years without having success, allowed me the right to claim that at heart I am a meditator – despite evidence to the contrary.  I thought about a time when I was most likely to stop and reflect on these things for a half a minute or more.  That became the time of day for this practice.

Of all places, I chose the television as the spot for my candle.  The idea was to make this as simple as possible and let go of trappings about how I should do it.  Each morning for a week I lit the candle.  Early the 2nd week I sat down on a cushion on the floor for 5 minutes observing my breath.  I didn’t decide I should do this.  It was just natural to extend the time of acknowledging awareness a little bit longer.  The next week when I lit the candle I sat for 10 minutes.  At the end of a month I was sitting for 20 minutes each morning.

That was 16 years ago.  I have had a meditation practice ever since, and never have I asked myself to meditate for 40 minutes twice a day.  The benefits that I’ve gotten from my single 20 minute sit are innumerable.

Somewhere along the way I identified with this idea that doing things in my life is up to me alone.  Yet, I got so much farther on my desire to meditate when I took the time to acknowledge a loving support that I cannot define or accurately name.  ‘Yes,’ I say to experiences that poke holes in that mistaken notion that I am an independent operator!!!

Giving Worry the Wings of Prayer

Tuesday, June 7 @ 7pm Heart to Hearth is holding a New Moon Blessing.  See website and calendar  for pertinent information, location, fee, etc.  www.bodyandhearth.com  I'm including a bit of information that doesn't show on the site.

"It seems that at this time, things that help us use difficulties to grow and evolve are good things to have around.  We have the ability to give our worries and concerns ‘prayer wings’.  And doing so is really essential.  We can become overwhelmed by the suffering we see or hear about and then shut down, or the pain around us can become toxic to us.  If we will do things – with the intention of relieving a particular suffering – we empower ourselves in the face of pain, and we actually help in the process.  As a culture, when we think of doing something, we think of taking direct physical action.  Very often we can't.  But we can give our desire to be helpful expression anyway and it will be helpful to us and to all.  We may not see the effects of our efforts, but that our good intentions help, I have no doubt."

At this event, I'll be guiding us in a process to extend healing energy to ourselves (those present) and others (those not present).  It's a very creative process.  My hope is to expand our vocabulary of 'helping' so that we can each find ways to respond to suffering we witness around us that enrich our lives.

I send this with wishes of good things for you!

Monkey Wrenches and Things that Invite Us to the Edges

Health has very different levels of significance in people’s lives!!!  You may know, or be one of those people who take their health for granted.  They can eat just about anything.  If they’re my age (approaching the far shores of middle age), they may have some annoying, potentially serious condition that just hasn’t gotten that bad yet – perhaps a little arthritis in their hands.  It doesn’t occur to them to do anything more about it than take a pain reliever when they’ve been in the garden too long.
There are those, me amongst them, for whom health has been a daily topic for so long, they can’t begin to take it for granted.  Waking each morning, one of the unknown’s faced is how will this body be today?  It’s right there, first thing.
Amongst this group, some of them are proactive; they pay attention to what they put in their bodies and how it effects areas of concern.  They’re not satisfied with taking something that will remove the symptoms; they want to get to what’s driving the bus.
There are people who say, “You’re health is the most important thing you have.”  I don’t know that I’m right, but I assume they haven’t had the experience of misplacing their health for a protracted period of time – say decades.  My experience with health that’s been much less than reliable for a long time is that health is not the most important thing in life.  People are, how I effect people, how I respond to what comes my way.  These are the most important things in life.  Health is a highly desirable thing I hope to find (even at this late stage), but I know it’s not essential to living my life fully.
The bottom line is – the vast majority of us have some sort of major monkey wrench in our lives that takes us to the edge of our limits, where many of us learn to stretch.  This is where we learn that our response to what arises is far more important than what arises, if we’re paying attention.  My major monkey wrench is my health, I actually have others – yes for those of you who are walking around with more than one monkey wrench in the works, you are not alone.
Being in the group I’m in, having misplaced my health, being as proactive to find it as I can, and added to that, being in the healing arts there’s a hazard I run into.  I’m kind of in the solution business – personally and professionally.  That’s great, but sometimes, I want to help people who aren’t aware they need help, or don’t want it.
I’ve come to know that things can be improved and I don’t like to see people suffering with something that seems unnecessary to me.  I believe that 12-Step slogan – ‘There is no situation so bad that it cannot be improved.’  I also trust the wisdom of – ‘Stay on your own side of the street!’  Truth be told, someone else’s health is none of my business, unless they invite me in.  Yet, healing is my business and I need to promote it.  Does anyone out there get this conundrum?  It’s another place the question of how I respond to what’s up is more important than what’s up.
There was a time when healers didn’t need to promote themselves.  They were recognized as having talents that were needed in the tribe.  They were sought out when help was wanted and they were provided for.  The medicine woman didn’t have a fee scale, an advertising budget or to seek ways to make people aware that her help was available.
I think there might be something out of whack in our society, and that I’ve touched on only one thing that’s a wee bit catawampus.  What do you think?

Worrying? Give it Wings and Angel Dust

Unlike me, you probably don't find yourself worrying!!!  OK, at least I wish this for you.  Overtime I've come to understand worry as an expression of Love or Caring that is not being well-expressed.  This is so easy to change it is astounding.  And there are a multitude of ways to go about it.  I'm sure there's at least one that's just right for you.  Here are a few suggestions:

~ Put a vase of flowers in a place you will see it often.  Each time you see it, recall the thing that you have been worried about and know that it is an expression of your love.  Send your love to everyone involved, to yourself, to the planet...whatever fits the situation.

~ At the beginning of a Qigong Practice period, or meditation, or other spiritual time ask that this area of concern receive all the loving energy it needs to move forward.

~ Sit quietly, imagine the problem that is troubling you.  See it in a bubble.  Begin adding colors and symbols that are uplifting to you and use this period of imagining to imbue this area of concern with your love.

~ You know how good the morning sun feels as Spring is coming on?  Imagine the thing you're worried about basking in the glow of that morning sun, being inundated by good feelings, the uplifting feeling of morning light.

~ Look for the positives that are coming out of this difficulty - it may not be easy to see them, but will you be happy you made the effort.  Ask for help doing this.

~ Say, 'Thank you for the resolution of this issue that is unfolding, even though I don't see it right now.  I know that it is unfolding and there will be a time when I see this.  Thank you.'

~ All of this could be said in the following way:  Pray!  Pray in the most playful, joyful way you can find to do so, entering into trust that all is well, despite evidence to the contrary.

Our worries are just Caring and Love asking and inviting us to use our human consciousness to assist energies in moving into alignment with the Greater Harmony in which we live.  When we don't find the playful, joyful expression of that Caring and Love, it becomes worry and it hurts.  But we have the ability to give Wings to worries and sprinkle them with Angel Dust - because we have the gift of Human Consciousness!!  Play, play, play your way into joy!

Fire Breathing Dragons & Ascension Dysfunction

Last year I hit a series of rough days.  There was some drama in my home. It wasn't fun, and I didn't stay calm every time, even though I knew I had a lot more ability to do so than the other party. The hard part was my own thinking. There wasn't really a problem, stuff happens, people are unreasonable sometimes, but my thinking got caught up in the stories it created about it all. (It's a very unusual trait in humans, LOL!) In short, I'd been walking around in a cloud of Fire Breathing Dragons, but I'd maintained awareness that they were just stories. They were just - poof - nothing, just thoughts encouraging me to be bummed out! I didn't want to be bummed out. I wanted to break through the cloud of Fire Breathing Dragons, because at that moment it was a thing about my living situation, but the week before it was.....and the next week, or tomorrow it will be....It seemed time to look these things square on and see that they are just stories.

Grace responded to my wish to get out of the cloud. Driving on a busy road, in a good deal of traffic I turned on my car radio. As the antenna was supposed to be going up I heard this strange sound. It didn't sound like an antenna going up, but the radio went on. When I stopped at my next destination I looked where the antenna should be and saw a cord hanging over the side of the car - oh, and there was the antenna, dangling from the cord. The visual image of that thing going up, being loosed from it's housing and fallling caused me to break into laughter. I imagined the view of those other drivers and - poof - the cloud of Fire Breathing Dragons was gone.

Really, this isn't funny. How can it be funny?  My car is 17 years old, because I don't have the money for something newer - it helps that I really like my car - and the number of things that were going wrong with it at that time were not laughable. This is serious business! But, I was amused by the visual image of that antenna's ascending dysfunction!

See how much influence my thoughts have on my experience?

The Gifts We Might Miss if Not Seeking to Find

Disappointment is the flavor of the day.  In short, that means some things aren’t going as I want them to, and with the thoughts I’m thinking about this, I’m making myself miserable.

Yet, I’m not letting the thoughts and feelings rule my evening.  The sense of disenchantment, entitlement unfulfilled, rooted in expectation that things go as I want them to and the incumbent thoughts are like a scent.  I smell the scent, admittedly, it’s not a pleasant one, but there are other scents present and even the absence of scent.  I’m not having a really easy time noticing those other scents, or paying attention to them – but I know they are there.  This is huge!  This is awareness in action, awareness brought to the workings of my mind and interrupting patterns of thinking that have been habitual.

As one disappointment arose today, I even recognized it as a response to something out of balance, a corrective response.  This recognition was grounded in trust of Life.  Wow!  This is cause for celebration!
September 30, 2010

I wrote this 6 days after my kitty-boy died, quite unexpectedly.  No wonder I was feeling a plethora of stuff that was less than uplifted.

When Tora died, the grief hit me so hard that I knew – based on experience – that I would be physically ill in very short order and it would, likely take months to regain stability.  With this awareness I thought, ‘This pattern must change.  There has to be a way to honor my feelings that is not so hard on my body, and is not denial.’

Tora was an amazing cat.  He truly felt like a Shaman to me his presence in my life seemed to have spiritual purpose.  If his companionship had a purpose than his departure did too, I claimed.  I determined that through his death I was going to find a new way to relate to the intensity of my emotions.  My emotions were going to be seen, acknowledged, accepted, but they were not going to derail me.  This big loss was not going to result in months of illness.  This change, I was going to make for Tora.  His death was going to have meaning and power in my life of a very positive nature.

It’s been about two months since my little guy died.  I often tear up when I think of him.  Just as often I smile, because he was such a joy and such a character.  I did not get sick.  At moments the feelings would seem like a vortex that was going to suck me in and I would remember my determination that his death was going to have a positive impact on my life, it was going to be my bridge to a new relationship with the intensity of my emotions.  I don’t recall much of how I worked with my emotions, I recall that at times they seemed to have such a powerful pull.  I was very mindful of handling his things around my home, being really present to what I wanted to do with his toys and other things.  I visited his grave out back some mornings.  Somehow, it must have been grace, I managed to honor my feelings and not be so impacted by them that I got ill.  A new relationship with my feelings was forged.  Yeah, I still get overwhelmed by them and forget how what I have access to that will help me through until a friend reminds me.  But, the difference in how I am working with intense emotions is profound.  Truly, it was a gift my precious Tora gave to me.

For more of my writing and a piece about Tora – coming in the near future – see www.momentscount.com.  There are writers to be found there who will delight, inform, inspire and guide.

Thoughts on Thought

As my practice of Spring Forest Qigong has continued, I’ve come to understand that it really is thought that I am dealing with.  What arises on the physical is an ‘out-picturing’ of thoughts and beliefs I’ve given attention to, sometimes for a very long time.  At the beginning of my practice session, just after saying the password: “I am in the Universe, the Universe is in my body, the Universe and I are combined together,” (which I say to align my energies with the Universe, a Power Greater than myself, Love – there are a lot of possible ways to say this) I identify my intention for the session of practice.  This is the moment when I identify the problem.  “Please, help me to heal….”  After that, my attention is on the Wholeness of Being, the utterly balanced energy of the Universe, generously giving to me what I need, and me receiving that energy.  I tune into the sensations of that experience on every level I can, visually, sensations of the body, and subtle sense that is beyond words.

As time passes, I am more and more convinced that the only thing that needs to be healed is what I give my attention to.  This seems like tricky stuff to talk about.  Let me jump in with some history.

From a very young age, I was told that if I was having a problem, I must want it.  The person who was saying this wasn’t really trying to help me.  S/he was expressing his/her pain inappropriately.  It was an abusive response to my experience.  It took many forms; it went on for many, many years.

As an adult, encountering the idea that our thoughts have a lot of influence over our experience – oddly enough – was not a thoroughly reprehensible suggestion.  It made some sense to me.  But, it did bump into the experiences of childhood, the confusion, the pain, the blame, the accusation of personal failure for having a difficulty.  And the idea, even in adulthood, was not very skillfully presented!  (That just said, is an example of my gift for understatement.)  I do, I really do understand the idea that what we experience is greatly influenced by what we think, believe and focus on is difficult to sidle up to.  Even if one has not experienced the abusiveness around this concept that I did as a child.  It’s very uncomfortable for most of us.  It flies in the face of how we go about living our lives in our culture.  It is definitely a swim against the current of experience and our world.  And how the heck do we deal with this idea and not feel utterly overwhelmed by the enormity of the task to be aware of our thinking?

There are answers to that question, but it doesn’t actually need to be answered.  It is something which we can approach indirectly, and by many, many methods.  My approach is Spring Forest Qigong practice, and various meditative practices.   I do things I love to do that have me focused on the Wholeness of Being, feeling the energy of it, right here, in my little body.  And when my attention goes off to something – very often a ‘problem’ – just bringing it back to the practice at hand.  This process of spending time experiencing Life at a very ephemeral level opens me to receiving everything I need, on all levels of life.  I don’t have to figure it all out.  I don’t have to come up with the right plan and make certain I put it into action.  I just need to enter into those things in my life where I feel the Pulse of Life breathing me.  I don’t have to be able to do it all the time.  I can start where I am and it will build with the attention I’m able to give it.  It’s a matter of Good, Better and Best – this is a Spring Forest Qigong concept.  We don’t have to do it perfectly.  To do it is Good.  Over time we get Better and continue moving to Best.

It would be lovely if I could tell you that now that I’ve been doing this for 2 years I’m not still struggling, but it hasn’t worked that way.  Instead, it has improved the quality of my life.  It has improved my trust in life, my health, my awareness of where my thinking is and clarified what I actually believe to be true.  Unexpected gifts have arrived or unfolded, friends, business opportunities, new medications, minerals, herbs and doors have opened that I didn’t know were there.  It has been subtle, but profound.  (That’s another blog of its own: Subtle But Profound).  It has been life changing.

May I encourage you to use what is in your life that brings you to an awareness of your connection with the Bigger Picture, the Universe, God (oh, here we go again, the potential words are too many to list).  Use it daily.  Find little ways to return to it throughout the day, just to touch in for a second.

If you don’t have such a thing in your life, I offer you this:
Imagine your body standing before you.  You (the true wisdom of your being) are holding the corner of a sheet of light that shimmers with vibrating waves that are perfectly created to bring you into alignment with Love’s Perfection, the Universe…  Nature (imagine her as suits you) is holding another corner.  An exalted being (I use Christ) is holding another corner.  The remaining corner is held by another exalted being.  Together you are holding this sheet of light several feet below your feet.  The sheet is of a size that allows its edges to extend several feet beyond your body to include your entire aura.  Now, you and the others present begin to lift this vibrationally brilliant sheet through your body and aura.  Lift it slowly enough to enjoy the process.  When you have raised it a number of feet above your head (isn’t imagination wonderful, all the things we can do!), join the four corners of the sheet together.  In this, are energies that are no longer vibrationally appropriate for you and they are ready to be moved on.  With the help of the other beings you’re working with tie a beautiful cord around this bundle you’ve created.  Thank the energies the bundle contains for their participation in your evolution as a being, even those energies that have troubled us have helped us.  Tell them that you are going to turn them over to one of the exalted beings present (for me that’s Christ), and they will be ‘lifted’ to their next evolutionary stage of development.  Thank Nature for holding these energies in form until they could be released with awareness.  Turn the bundle over to the being who is going to transport them.   Then forget about these energies.

Put your attention back on the image of yourself in front of you.  Notice that as you pulled the sheet of light through your body and aura it created a column that now surrounds you, and now holds you in a vibrational state that is aligned with the Universe… and the truest expression of you!  For a few moments, just hang out with this.   Lean into the sensations of it, soak it up.

When you are ready to bring this to a close, take a few slow deep breaths.  Thank the beings that helped you with this.  Rub your hands together to make them warm, then massage your face to bring your awareness back to your body through a moment of tenderness.

With Unfailing Kindness

'With unfailing kindness, your life always presents what you need to learn. Whether you stay home, or work in an office, or whatever, the next teacher is going to pop right up.'
 - Charlotte Joko Beck

This morning I woke up feeling pretty awful. It's a chronic thing that tends to flare up this time of year. It wasn't a pleasant thing to wake up to; I'm using a bit of understatement here. I made a quick decision that it wasn't going to dictate my frame of mind. A slogan from Tibetan Buddhism came to mind that I thought might be helpful in supporting that decision. I picked up a book looking for the slogan and it’s explanation. I found the quote above, but not the slogan I wanted. After looking for in two more books I decided that this quote was going to work just fine.

It reminded me of 'causes & conditions'. My experience of this moment is the effect of 'causes & conditions'. It arises out of past decisions I've made and collective influences. It's the fruit of these, and the way that I respond to them that will be part of the 'causes & conditions' of my future. Committing to experiencing this moment (this fruit) as directly as possible, as free of my stories, my judgments, my likes and dislikes will create the best possible experience for me.

At times it can be pretty hard to see what arises in our lives as the perfect and kind teacher. For me, it's relating to the moment as directly as possible that allows whatever's going on to be the perfect stepping stone for forward movement. It's not really the events themselves that are the teacher - it's responding to them as fully present to myself and as free of ideas about how things 'should' be as I can that makes a teaching of whatever it is....

Responding in that way has become possible as I have learned to be present for myself, to be a wise mother or father or teacher to myself in that moment, expressing compassion for my experience, promising myself that I will not leave. I will walk through the difficulty with me. It's a weird thing to write about, the words don't sound right. But, it is a powerful, powerful way to heal, and face difficulties of the present.

A lot has happened since I wrote this piece nine months ago.  My health has improved so much, my belief that being well is an option has taken root.  I have expanded beyond limitations that I didn’t think it was possible to go beyond, and I am not stopping now.

There has been the tender encouragement of friends, tweaking of supplements and medications, and a lot of trust.  One of the biggest things that occurred was the recognition that the limitations in my health I’d been experiencing for three decades were well grounded in my thinking and this is alterable.  To reach this awareness was a move into self-acceptance at a profound level, simply looking at things with as much honesty as I could muster and no judgment.  With my daily practice of Qigong, the mentoring of dear friends, and unflinching honesty about myself my life has been and is continuing to be redefined.  The possibility of Life is so much greater than we realize.  May we all enter into the depth of possibility, letting go our persistent need to know so that we may allow.

Hooping for Joy

Actually, that isn’t misspelled.  Hooping, the lost art of hula hooping, do you remember doing it as a child?  I’m in an ongoing search for exercise that brings me joy and puts to use multiple parts of the body in different ways.  My latest discovery is hooping.
It began with a standard kids hula hoop, which I watched fall to the floor with numbing speed over and over again.   Not to be deterred from this exercise that would not only work the hips, and abdominal muscles, but benefit all the nearby organs, I began looking on the internet and learned that when you’re not a kid anymore, you need a weighted hula hoop that is bigger.  They move slower!!!  Really, they move slower so those of us who don’t have the hip action we did as youngsters, in a day or two, can actually keep the thing up for half a minute or more.
It gets better.  Once I could keep it up for a little bit I looked to the video I’d gotten and saw that walking around was the next feat to undertake.  Before long, I began practicing with my mp3 player tucked into a place on my upper body (wires hanging on the torso are a problem).  My delight increased, and so did my skill.  Running, turning, grapevine steps (these aren’t really strong yet), walking backwards, a twist of the hip in the direction of spin and then a quick snap back to the opposite produces a nice effect.  Next – this is my own innovation, I figured out that if I took the hoop in my hands, with the greatest spread of my arms I could achieve, the hoop became a great mechanism for stretching.  Do you find stretching boring?  I don’t always, but sometimes I definitely do.  Try taking that hoop with arms spread wide, now move.  Your whole body.  Run, turn, spin, bend, hold the hoop to one side, move it to the other, all the while dancing.  If you get a good position with a deep stretch, be still, but let the music move you on the inside.  Your stillness will become part of the dance.  After a few more days, add wrist weights to the stretching part of your session.  And you will have a lovely work out.  If you love moving as I do, you will have a way to work out that is nothing short of Joy expressing itself.  Yes, for the Joy of Hooping!!!

Nothing Is Lost

One of the nice things about writing beyond the wisdom I live - as mentioned in the sidebar - is that at times when my thinking has gotten all messed up I have my own words in some file, here or there on my computer to help put me back on track.  It is odd, yet wonderful.  I wrote this piece this past June.  I needed to read it tonight.  I didn't know it was the piece I needed to read until I read it.

Nothing Is Lost
There is no effort that is lost.
There is no experience that is wasted.
There is not anything that goes un-utilized in wakening
To What Is.

I will not presume to tell you What Is.
I couldn’t anyway, it is beyond words.
I will tell you, as many times as you need to hear,
Nothing is ever lost.

No experience can fail to lead us to awakening,
Good or bad, it is all the fuel that ushers in Awareness.
There is but one purpose for anything,
To know What Is.

And What Is will absolutely succeed in getting our full attention.
It will use everything that arises to do so.
What Is, is that which causes us to seek peace, equality, balance, joy.
I tell you, nothing is lost.

I tell you, fulfillment of our desire for the goodness we seek is the only possibility.

Describing Qigong Healing

Quite naturally, people often ask me to describe what it is I do when doing healing work, or to describe Qigong healing.  Unless I know the person well, or have a grasp of their paradigm of reality I am hard pressed to describe this incredible art.  If I had a better understanding of Quantum Physics there are those I could describe it to quite easily… but, it’s a rare person who I run into who has even the very elementary knowledge of Quantum Physics I do.  Then another route for describing it is Taoism, oops.  Precisely the same problem arises as with Quantum Physics.  Our comprehension of the influence we have over energy (so that means everything) is not really up to the task of describing this healing art or understanding it.  It’s a simple fact.  Yet, because I am asked so often, I have made an attempt here to put some of my understanding into words.

Qigong healing has been in use in China for thousands of years.   It’s based on a simple principle expressed by Albert Einstein, ‘Every thing is energy.’  Einstein found that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be transformed, something Taoist masters understood long ago.

Illness, stress, excessive fatigue, chronic pain, financial distress, emotional imbalance, relationship issues… are each an expression of energy that is out of balance.  To put it another way, it is energy that is seeking to be transformed by our skilful attention.  The personal practice of Spring Forest Qigong and Qigong healing are very accessible ways to bring skilful attention to any area of life.

It could be said that when something is out of balance, something is stuck.  There is a hindrance to the natural flow of energy.  We were all born with the ability to heal ourselves and others.  It is the interconnectedness of being that Quantum Physics is revealing to us that helps us understand this reality.  As an energy healer, learning through Spring Forest Qigong and other areas of study, through my connection with the client and Life itself I use my understanding of the effects of awareness and intention to focus energy in a way that facilitates a return to balance, essentially utilizing my client’s innate ability to heal.  Much of the work is done through my visualization and a ‘felt sense’ of the flow of energy to send silent messages to my client.  In a face-to-face healing session I use my hands in certain ways to help me focus my attention where my client needs assistance in reclaiming the natural, balanced flow of their energy system – on the levels of thought, form and spirit.  When doing Long Distance healing I use visualization.  In any case, I am always calling upon the energy of Life itself to express the natural balance that is always present.

In addition to freedom from pain, the rapid healing of wounds, greater emotional stability, greater mental clarity, increased motivation and ability to stand up to addiction, increased energy, vitality… my clients have also experienced a sense of peace and ease that they have found unique and delightful.  I may not be able to explain how this occurs, but a lot of us are happy that it does.

Stepping Stones to Health

Stepping Stones to Health

Change is a lot of different things.  Sometimes it comes in a flash, sometimes it comes in fits and starts, sometimes it comes in discreet increments.  To be very philosophical about it, however it shows up, it is always taking place.  Where ever it is we happen to be in the moment when we recognize we want something to change, we are in standing on the first Stepping Stone to that change.  Awareness brings change, desire can fuel action.  In that first moment of recognition that we want change, we have Awareness and Desire.

There’s another aspect to change worthy of discussion, change we don’t want.  It happens in all the same ways noted above.  In that moment we recognize that something has changed in a way that we are not happy about, we are once again on a Stepping Stone, the first stepping stone that leads to peace with what has happened.  Again, we have Awareness that we are not at peace with what has unfolded and we have a Desire to be at peace.  Awareness and Desire are powerful allies to anyone who wishes to know their wholeness.

Stepping Stones to Health is a blog that carries the name of my business, a business that, at its core, is dedicated to assisting others in finding right where they are is the perfect place for forward movement in life.  The tools I use in my business are Spring Forest Qigong Level 1 practice groups and classes, and coaching; and Qigong healing – face-to-face as well as long distance.

There are many times in my life that I have been quite certain that where I was could not possibly be on the perfect stepping stone to experiencing peace, health or wholeness.  I have come to know that what I experience doesn’t always represent what is true.  Depression is a good example of this.  I have spent a lot of time with the negative thoughts depression sends across the screen of the mind.  It shows me how little is possible, how little I am loved, how little I love and many other things that suggest things are unworkable.  It shows me a great and convincing variety of things about how wrong where I am at the moment is.  When the depression lifts, I see that I have fallen sway to a pack of lies.  While in the depression, what I saw seemed very, very real to me.  Yet it wasn’t.  It was an experience I was having at the time, it was not the truth.

It’s easier to see the pliability of emotional states than of health, financial difficulties, relationship issues and all things physical.  Yet, they are much more pliable than we realize.  Very often, what vexes us is more smoke and mirrors than reality.  As we give attention to practices like Spring Forest Qigong, practices that invite us to relate to life at an energetic level – while usually we relate to the physical and mental aspects – we begin to experience the presence of serenity we hadn’t noticed before.  We also begin to see life unfolding more easily and we begin to loosen our grip on the controls.

Though this blog carries the name of my business, the topics are likely to vary a lot.  There’s so much to explore in life, so many moments to sit with and delve into.  Be prepared with spelunking gear, scuba gear, climbing cleats, surf board, and you’ll probably want a hang glider, too.  We never know what life’s going to offer up, and I’m a bit like that; I can go off in a lot of different directions.  I’m looking forward to riding with you!
